U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that American military actions have ended the targeted killings of Christians in Nigeria.
During a Washington event focusing on counter-terrorism, Trump credited U.S. interventions with dismantling extremist groups in heavily affected regions.
“As you know, we recently struck Nigeria and largely ended the slaughter of great Christian populations,” he said.
The Republican said the situation in Nigeria before the strikes was severe, claiming that a lot of innocent people had been killed in brutal attacks.
“They have a great Christian population. They were being butchered… butchered. Thousands and thousands of people were being killed, children, women, old people, just being slaughtered, hacked to death,” he added.
