Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Office Reopened As 6-Month Suspension Ends

The Senate has reopened the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, months after she was suspended from legislative duties.

The Sergeant-at-Arms, supported by security operatives, unsealed her office at the National Assembly on Tuesday and granted her access to the premises once again.

The development comes ahead of the Senate’s resumption on October 7, 2025.

Sources revealed that the decision was reached during a Senate leadership meeting, where plans were made for a motion to be moved for her return.

Part of the arrangement may involve her offering an apology before she is fully reintegrated.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 for six months after clashing with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the reassignment of her seat.

Her suspension barred her from all activities of the 10th Senate, and despite the expiration of the sanction in September, she faced continued resistance to resuming duties.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, had earlier ruled that the suspension was excessive and unconstitutional, stressing that it denied her constituents proper representation.

However, the Senate insisted she must serve the full term of the suspension before returning.

During the period, Akpoti-Uduaghan sought legal redress and her lawyers also wrote to the National Assembly demanding her reinstatement, warning of possible legal consequences if she was not recalled.

The Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamorudeen Ogunlana, responded that his office lacked the power to reverse Senate resolutions, stressing that the final decision rested with the Senate itself.
