The incident occurred at the frontage of an uncompleted one-storey building on Abuba Anthony Street, near Obalagbe Bus Stop, within the Igando-Ikotun LCDA. The building, still under construction, consists of six two-bedroom flats on a 648-square-metre compound.

According to the Fire Service, a distress call was received at 7:34 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025. Emergency responders from the Ejigbo Fire Station were deployed and discovered that an adult woman had fallen into an uncovered well on the premises.

Due to the depth and complexity of the operation, multiple agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force and the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), were involved in the search and recovery effort.

After nearly 10 days, the woman’s body was retrieved on Thursday, July 10.

She was confirmed dead at the scene and handed over to SEHMU officials, while the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) remained on standby.

Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, also monitored the recovery process.

Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, extended her condolences to the victim’s family and praised the coordinated effort by all agencies.

She noted that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing and being led by the Nigerian Police Force.
