Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have reversed their earlier position and renewed their backing for the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The lawmakers announced their decision at a press conference held on Friday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, where they declared continued support for the impeachment process initiated by the assembly.

They accused the governor of failing to show remorse over the allegations levelled against him, insisting that their renewed stance was based on concerns over his conduct and response to the issues raised.

The legislators said their decision to recommit to the process followed further consultations and a review of developments surrounding the impeachment move.

Details of the impeachment process and the specific allegations against the governor were not disclosed at the briefing, as the lawmakers said further information would be made public in due course.

Popular Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnanu, widely known as “Omije Ojumi,” has reportedly passed away on January 13, 2026.

According to reports, she died after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed health condition that was linked to a severe leg ailment.

As of now, the family has not released an official statement, though further details are expected in the coming days.

Akinnanu’s death follows months of public appeals for prayers and divine intervention as she battled a serious leg ailment.

In late 2025, a video of the singer at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, circulated online, showing her seated with her leg extended while prayers were offered for her recovery.

The footage drew widespread attention and concern over the severity of her condition.

During the service, the presiding cleric revealed that Akinnanu had been experiencing persistent bleeding in her leg, prompting an intense prayer session.

The video quickly went viral, with fans and well-wishers across Nigeria organizing prayer vigils and flooding social media with messages of support.

The exact medical details of her illness were never officially disclosed.

Bunmi Akinnanu’s music journey began at the age of 10. She later left a career in banking to pursue gospel music full-time, eventually gaining prominence with “Omije Ojumi,” a song that resonated deeply with Nigerians.

Over the years, she released several other gospel tracks, earning her recognition as one of the respected voices in the Nigerian gospel music industry.

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Industries, through his legal representative, has formally submitted a corruption petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Farouk Ahmed, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

This was disclosed in a statement made available to our correspondent by the Dangote Group media team on Friday.

Recall that Dangote had earlier petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate Ahmed for allegedly spending $5 million on his children’s secondary education in Switzerland. He withdrew the petition a few days ago, even as the ICPC vowed to continue with its investigation.

The statement on Friday said Dangote’s petition to the EFCC followed “The withdrawal of the same petition from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, a strategic decision aimed at accelerating the prosecution process.”

In the petition, signed by Lead Counsel Dr O.J. Onoja, Dangote urged the EFCC to investigate allegations of abuse of office and corrupt enrichment against Ahmed, and to prosecute him if found culpable.

The petition further stated that Dangote would provide evidence to substantiate claims of financial misconduct and impunity.

“We make bold to state that the commission is strategically positioned, along with sister agencies, to prosecute financial crimes and corruption-related offences, and upon establishing a prima facie case, the courts do not hesitate to punish offenders. See Lawan v. F.R.N (2024) 12 NWLR (Pt. 1953) 501 and Shema v. F.R.N. (2018) 9 NWLR (Pt.1624) 337,” the petition read.

Onoja further urged the commission, under the leadership of Mr Olanipekun Olukoyede, “To investigate the complaint of abuse of office and corruption against Engr. Farouk Ahmed and to accordingly prosecute him if found wanting.”
