A Republican lawmaker, Andy Ogles, has introduced a controversial bill seeking to amend the U.S. Constitution to allow Donald Trump to run for a third term in office.

Congressman Ogles submitted the resolution on Thursday, arguing that Trump is uniquely positioned to address the nation’s challenges and restore America’s global standing.

“He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness,” Ogles stated. “He must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal.”

The proposal directly challenges the 22nd Amendment, which limits a U.S. president to two terms. Ratified in 1951, the amendment was enacted following Franklin D. Roosevelt’s unprecedented four-term presidency.

Ogles, a staunch Trump’s supporter, defended his bill, saying, “We must provide Trump with every resource necessary to correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration.”

While Trump has previously dismissed the idea of a third term, he jokingly entertained the possibility after securing re-election in 2024, stating, “Unless you say, ‘he’s so good, we have to just figure it out.’”

Ogles also praised Trump’s policy decisions during his second term, highlighting executive actions on border security, energy production, gender identity policies, and the withdrawal from the World Health Organization.

Despite Republicans holding a slim majority in the House, the bill faces an uphill battle. A constitutional amendment requires two-thirds approval from both chambers of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of U.S. states—a formidable challenge in the current political climate.
