Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has taken a commanding early lead in the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election, securing 4,860 votes (41.70 per cent) as of 11:08 a.m. on Saturday.

Closest challengers Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, and Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, followed with 3,851 (33.10 per cent) and 2,824 votes (25.13 per cent), respectively.

The results are provisional, with the final outcome expected after the completion of voting, collation and verification by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA).

The election is being conducted electronically by the ECNBA to choose the next president of the association, with three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) contesting for the office. The presidency is zoned to the Western Zone under the NBA’s rotational arrangement.

The poll follows months of campaigns and legal disputes over the electoral process. Earlier on Saturday, the ECNBA apologised for a delay in the commencement of voting before the election eventually got underway.

The winner will succeed the incumbent NBA President, Afam Osigwe, SAN, and lead Africa’s largest professional association of lawyers for the next two-year term.
