Olowookere’s release is part of the governor’s decision to pardon 53 convicts, including those on death row, announced on December 24, 2024.

Fourteen years ago, an Osun State High Court sentenced Olowookere and Morakinyo Sunday to death for conspiracy and stealing a fowl. Their clemency was finalized when the necessary documents were processed at the prison.

The Special Adviser to Governor Adeleke on Public Communication, Olusola Ajala, confirmed Olowookere’s release during a public function.

“I can confirm to you all that Segun Olowookere, sentenced to death for stealing, has been released from Kirikiri Maximum Prison. He will be in Osun State any moment from now. He may even join us at the gathering and meet with Mr. Governor. This is a testament to the compassion of the performing governor,” Ajala stated.

Olowookere reportedly met with social media influencers following his release before commencing his journey back to Osun State.

Governor Adeleke’s act of clemency underscores his administration’s commitment to justice reform and compassion for rehabilitated individuals.
