The National Organising Secretary of Afenifere, Kola Omololu, has criticised former President Olusegun Obasanjo, for calling President Bola Tinubu, ‘Baba go-slow’.

The Afenifere scribe also called him a narcissist seeking attention.

Obasanjo had made the statement during a keynote address at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum which was held at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, USA.

In his speech, the former president lamented the state of affairs in Nigeria, claiming that the situation was dire and visible to the international community.

Omololu rejected Obasanjo’s criticism, insisting that Tinubu has shown significant potential in his leadership, especially in his short time in office.

He praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, suggesting they had already set Nigeria on a path toward recovery and growth, according to Daily Post.

In a statement signed by Omololu, he described Obasanjo’s actions as “grandstanding” and likened him to a “narcissist” who craves the spotlight.

He referenced former President Shehu Shagari’s autobiography, “Beckoned To Serve,” where Shagari had labeled Obasanjo as egotistical.

Omololu further questioned Obasanjo’s credibility, noting the impressive performance of the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2024, which showed a 39.84% increase year-to-date, making it the second-best performing exchange in Africa.

Omololu challenged Obasanjo’s moral authority to criticize Tinubu, pointing out that Obasanjo had struggled to manage his own presidency effectively.

He said, “This is typical Obasanjo grandstanding. As the late President Shehu Shagari wrote about him in his autobiography, ‘Beckoned To Serve,’ Obasanjo is an egotistical narcissist who cannot stand not being the centre of attention and the cynosure of all eyes. He will engage in serial acts of incitement to attract the spotlight to himself.

“How can President Obasanjo talk of mismanagement when, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, the Nigerian Stock Exchange crossed 104,562.06 All Shares Index, a 39.84 per cent increase year-to-date, making it the second-best performing exchange in Africa?

“If you could not manage your Presidency, what moral authority do you have to call the man who has managed his government and party with almost military efficiency a mediocre?”
