Lauretta Onochie, a former Media Aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has stated that the re-election of President Bola Tinubu on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be made easy if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, step down for his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, in 2027.

JomogNews recalls that Obi and Atiku recently met behind closed doors, sparking speculations about a merger of some opposition political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Confirming the move by opposition parties to align in a bid to unseat the APC in the 2027 election, Atiku said he would step down for Peter Obi if he is chosen as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2027 general election.

In an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday, Atiku said he would abide by the decision of party members if they unanimously agreed to zone the PDP’s presidential candidate to the South East.

Atiku added that if the party selects Obi as the presidential candidate in 2027, he will readily offer his support to him.

Reacting, Onochie, in a post via X on Saturday, said Atiku stepping down for Obi would make President Tinubu’s reelection easier and prayed that Atiku would make such a decision in 2027.

She wrote: “Our Father and our God. Yes, it’s me, your son. I pray that Atiku steps down for Obi, so that 2027 would be an easy job for APC re-election.

“You know I never ask you for anything because you are a responsible father who provides for me, always. Thank you for answered prayer.”

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has declared that his administration has recorded giant strides in infrastructure since assuming office one year ago.

Fubara said his administration has done better in the execution of projects than his predecessor, Nyesom Wike’s eight years.

The governor spoke in Ngo Town at the inauguration of the Andoni section of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity Road project, in Andoni Local Government Area on Saturday.

He promised to ensure his administration carried out more infrastructural projects.

According to Fubara: “Like I said the other day, we just started. We started about three or four months ago but I am very happy that if we have to assess ourselves within those three months, we have done better than people who stayed for eight years, I stand to be challenged.”

Recall that Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory have been at loggerheads shortly after assuming office.

During the week, the governor had boasted of defeating his political enemies, stressing that they now slept with their eyes open and restless.

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Ali Ndume, has said that corruption in Nigeria politics is people-driven and should not result in any serious punishment.

Ndume stated this while speaking on the death penalty as a deterrent for those caught with drugs.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television Ndume admitted that politicians “steal and share with the people”.

He argued that when politicians’ corruption is compared to others, it is a “small one’

According to him, “If you compare us, politicians, to all the corruption, it is very small. Our corruption is people-driven. If you steal it, you will go and share it with the people. If you don’t, you are not coming back for four years. There is no reason for stealing.

“I have been to the National Assembly, I can’t say because we are on TV now and not telling the truth. If the death penalty is supposed to be included in corruption, I will support it but you don’t go and kill someone that stole one million or one billion, no. But someone who steals one trillion of government money should be killed.”

The senator said he supports death punishment for drug dealers.

“The death penalty is the best deterrent for those being caught for drugs. If you do drugs, you are killing people.

“In fact, that means you have destroyed the lives of so many people and killed so many people,” he added.
