Combined security personnel attached to Malam Aminu Kano International airport on Thursday have intercepted bags filled with different foreign currencies allegedly smuggled into Nigeria via Ethiopian Airline.
A source who, doesn’t want to be mentioned, explained that the Ethiopian Airline arrived at about 2.30pm.
“Some security personnel uncovered some suspicious luggage and upon checking, discovered different foreign currencies stashed in them.”
The source who pleaded anonymity because of the sensitive nature of development explained “sooner as the passengers disembarked from the jet that they uncovered suspicious luggage.”
In his words “As soon as the Airline left, some security personnel uncovered some suspicious luggage and upon checking them different Foreign currencies were seen hiding in them”.
He spoke further, “upon close scrutiny further assorted foreign currencies in Dollars, Euro, Pound Sterling and others were uncovered”.
The impeccable sources said that it was at that moment, we called for reinforcement , and in no time the police, DSS, Custom, Immigration and even EFCC drafted their men in combat gears.
This tabloid learnt “security personnels began counting the money thereafter and it took them six hours to round up.
However, the sources failed to divulge the sum total of the hard currency seized, adding that “attempt that would expose there identity. “
All efforts to speak to different security agencies involved in the sting operation failed as most of them feign ignorance.
