The Director-General, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja at the joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.

According to him, the safe reopening of the NYSC camps across the country was successful and that none of those who tested positive were allowed into the camps.

Ihekweazu said that a total of 34,785 Corps members and members of the camp communities have been tested so far in the last weeks of which only 138 was found positive, which is 0.4% prevalence and 1 (one) on 200 people.

He said those who tested positive were either managed at home or in a treatment centre depending on if they have symptoms and what state they were in,” Ihekweazu said.

He also said that as talks between ASUU and the Federal Government progresses, the next challenge will be how to work with education stakeholders to ensure the safe reopening of the universities.

Ihekweazu said, “Universities have proven to be slightly risky it has it’s unique challenges, but we are confident that we can address this as we have done in other sectors like the aviation.”

NCDC Tweet:

138 positive tests out of 34,785 Corps members/camp support staff tested is less than 0.4%.

All were detected before they entered the @officialnyscng camps, excluded & managed accordingly.
