Millions of customers of fidelity in Nigeria have been experiencing hardship in accessing the bank’s ATM machine over its inability to recognize customers’ face.
The bank customers who thronged the banks ATM across Nigeria expressed displeasure over their inability to make transactions at the automated machine and endless delay.
In Lagos, customers were seen at the weekend on a long queue attempting to make withdrawals, while some who could not withstand the scorching sun left in annoyance.
When THE ENCOUNTER NEWS visited the Idimu branch of the bank along Egbeda, Lagos on Saturday, the customers were seen lamenting about the technical default of the bank’s ATM machines.
Many customers who attempted to use the bank’s ATM at Allen Avenue, Ikeja have their cards rejected by the machine with inscription such as, “dark camera”, camera cannot recognize face”, among others.
The situation remain the same in Ogun state, as our reporters in Sango, and Abeokuta reported that customers experienced horrible situation as many have to make withdrawal or any transactions with the help of torch light or their mobile phone light.
In fact, the bank branch at Joju bus stop, Sango-Ota, Ogun state was deserted by customers who could not withstand the hardship.
In Abeokuta, the Omida-Ibara branch of the bank was beehive of activities as customers have similar experiences, while some waited for about 30minutes to have their face recognized make a transaction, others make use of their mobile phone light to aid ligthening of the ATM camera to detect their face.
However, some private security personnel attached to the bank explained that, the ATM facial detection was recently introduced from the bank headquarters.
A security officer who does not want his name in print, told the customers to bear with the bank as the new development was a nationwide directive to reduce ATM fraud.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the Head of Corporate Communication of the bank, Ejike Ndiulo said the bank is investigating the matter, assuring to get back to our reporter as soon as the investigation is concluded.
