Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has died at the age of 60.

He reportedly collapsed in his office on Thursday, December 11, 2025, and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead.

Family sources said he was confirmed dead shortly after he arrived at the hospital. Staff and eyewitnesses said that he was in a very bad state when he was brought into the emergency unit.

People close to him linked the sudden collapse to the heavy workload he had been handling in recent weeks.

Though the exact cause of the medical emergency has not been made public, sources suggested a possible heart-related issue.

Security personnel have taken over the hospital area, restricting movement while senior government officials visit the facility.

Attempts to reach his media aide for comments were not successful.
