Popular Nigerian Actor, Chief Kanran Dies At 70

Famous Nollywood actor Olusegun Akinremi, professionally known as Chief Kanran, is dead. He was aged 70

His death was confirmed on Friday by movie executive and producer Seun Oloketuyi, who announced in an Instagram post that the actor passed away earlier in the day.

He wrote, “Popular actor Segun Remi popularly known as Chief Kanran died Friday morning. Details soon.”

Chief Kanran was a celebrated figure in the Yoruba film industry, famed for his refined elegance, love for luxury, sharp humour, and commanding performances that graced stage plays and movies for decades.

He began his career on stage before moving into television and film, gaining early recognition through his appearances in a popular NTA drama series.

His prominence grew further with memorable roles in numerous Yoruba films, often portraying kings, chiefs, and village elders.

Over the years, he featured in notable productions such as Ewe Orun, Aiye, Efunsetan Aniwura, Agbarin, and Bata Wahala.

In a 2020 interview, he spoke about stepping away from the movie industry, citing internal politics and professional disagreements.

As at press time, the cause of his death has not been disclosed, and the family is yet to release details of burial arrangements.
