Sowore Spends Night In Police Detention For Organising  Cross Over Protest

A former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and Publisher of Sahara Reporters has been arrested for protesting.

Sowore, and other activists spent the wee hours of the New Year in police custody for holding a protest in Abuja, Jomog News Nigeria reports.

The protest was organised in Abuja.

According to Sahara Reporters, police officers attacked and arrested the protesters during a peaceful procession to mark the New Year in Abuja.

Deji Adeyanju while confirming Sowore’s arrest called on police to release him.

His tweet read: “PROTEST can never be a crime in a democracy, tyrant Buhari free Sowore now.”

Sowore had before his arrest, sent out a series of tweets calling on Nigerians to join him on a protest against the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

His tweet had read: “How about a Cross Over Protest/Uprising tonight? Anyone willing to participate?”
Pick up a candle and a placard showing your grievances against the regime; let’s upload our short videos and photos across our social media platforms. Let’s welcome the regime to a resolute 2021!

“#CrossoverWithProtest against tyrant @mbuhari’s regime, candlelight for #LekkiMassacre; a placard for #EndBadGovernment; procession to usher in #Revolutionary 2021, a fist for victims of repression-frozen bank accounts, malicious prosecution and detention of #Endsars activists.
