President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced national honours for 50 Nigerians to mark the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations.
The recipients include prominent journalists, civil rights activists, lawyers, and military officers who faced persecution or made sacrifices during the historic struggle against military rule.
The comprehensive list of the 50 honourees is structured below by their respective professional and activist backgrounds.
According to the Presidency, the awardees endured persecution, detention, exile, and various forms of repression during the struggle for the restoration of democratic governance in Nigeria, with their contributions described as “instrumental to the democracy enjoyed today.”
According to the president, the honours list will be released in the next few days.
