Delivering the ruling on Monday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik also imposed stringent conditions that El-Rufai must fulfil before he can regain his freedom.

The court ordered him to provide one surety who must live in either Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja. The surety must also submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property to the court.

In addition, the surety must be a federal civil servant of at least Grade Level 17 and provide proof of three months’ salary payments, verified by a bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.

The surety is also required to swear to an affidavit of means, sign a bail bond, and submit a recent passport photograph.

As part of the bail terms, El-Rufai must surrender all valid international passports to the court.

The court further directed the surety to provide a verification letter from their department and a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.

Justice Abdulmalik also ordered El-Rufai to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register until the case is concluded.

The judge warned that failure to meet any of the conditions would lead to the automatic cancellation of the bail.

The court additionally directed El-Rufai to submit a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.

The judge also ordered an accelerated hearing of the case filed against him by the Nigerian government.
