The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended additional suspects regarding the August 26, 2024, murder of Prince Ademola Akinloye, son of the Ajiran of Agungi, Oba Tijani Akinloye.
Following an initial detention of nine individuals, these new arrests stem from ongoing investigations into the fatal shooting along Chevron Drive near Ebeano Supermarket in Lekki.
The killing led to the arrest of nine following intelligence gathering and investigations that linked them to the crime.
According to the police, the suspects were also linked to the killing of one Sheriff Salami on April 18, 2023, in the Moba community, Ajah.
Providing an update on the investigation, the state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, exclusively told our correspondent during a meeting at the Officers’ Mess in the Ikeja area of the state on Thursday that more suspects had been apprehended and had made confessional statements to the police regarding their roles in the killing.
Although the police chief did not disclose the number of additional suspects apprehended, he said the command had not relented in its efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He said, “In that case, we have arrested more suspects who have equally made voluntary confessional statements to the police, indicating the criminal roles they played.”
Jimoh added that the police were still on the trail of the prime suspect, Ahmad Akanbi, who was declared wanted over his alleged involvement in the killing.
“We are still on his trail. We have not stood down. We will continue to do our best to ensure that justice is served and that anybody who commits any crime is brought before the court to have their day in court,” he added.
The Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran had earlier issued a public notice stating that it was actively involved in the ongoing investigation into the killings of the prince and Salami.
In the notice, signed by the monarch, Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye, and Alhaji Yekini Olawale Bakare, the family said the murders were carried out in broad daylight within the Ojomu community.
The family stated that the investigation was necessary to ensure that those responsible were held accountable and to guarantee the safety of residents within the kingdom.
“The Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran land is constrained to inform the general public that it is very much involved in the investigation regarding the murders. This investigation is to ensure that murderers do not roam freely in our kingdom and that the subjects of our kingdom can live their lives without fear.”
“The Royal Family also requires this investigation to give closure to the Royal Family and justice for the victims of the above-mentioned atrocities,” the statement read.
