Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua survived a road traffic accident on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, with reports saying that two people died in the crash.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, said the accident occurred along the Shagamu Exchange axis of the expressway. He added that the Lagos State Government immediately dispatched an ambulance to the scene.

The Ogun State Police Command also confirmed the incident, which occurred near Sinoma and before the Danco area of Ogun State. Police said Joshua was involved in the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Eyewitnesses said the accident involved a Lexus Jeep and a stationary truck near the Danco Filling Station. Rescue officials confirmed that victims were extricated from the wreckage and rushed to hospital.

Images from the scene showed a shirtless Joshua standing amid wreckage and surrounded by sympathisers. According to Punch, eyewitnesses reported that “Two dead” resulted from the accident, while Joshua sustained only minor injuries.

A member of the rescue team, Adeniyi Orojo, confirmed that emergency responders acted promptly at the scene. Police and traffic authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash, noting that details on casualties are still being verified.
