Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke is expected to unveil his new political party before December 13, following his formal exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Adeleke’s resignation, disclosed in a letter submitted on November 4 to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, was confirmed on Monday.

Speaking during a political programme on Rave FM in Osogbo on Tuesday, Alimi attributed the governor’s departure to longstanding internal disputes within the PDP.

“The governor of Osun State has officially withdrawn from the Peoples Democratic Party. He submitted his resignation letter some time ago,” Alimi said.

He appealed to residents to stay calm and continue supporting the governor despite the political development.

“We appreciate the people for their support and ask them to remain steadfast. The governor draws strength from the people,” he added, referencing a Yoruba proverb that suggests a leader’s security lies with the people.

Alimi further explained that Adeleke’s decision was influenced by unresolved conflicts within the PDP, especially at the national level, ahead of the 2026 governorship election and the rapidly approaching December 15 deadline for party nominations set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The governor is satisfied with public reactions. If not for the deep-seated crisis at the national level, which is critical for nomination processes, he would not have left the PDP,” he said.

“With our election coming up in August and the nomination window closing soon, the governor had to make a realistic decision.”

Addressing claims that the All Progressives Congress welcomed Adeleke’s move, Alimi dismissed them as untrue.

“The APC is only pretending. Their plan was for him to remain in a divided PDP so they could challenge his candidacy. But Adeleke is ahead of them,” he said.

On the question of Adeleke’s next political platform, Alimi said consultations were ongoing and that the picture would become clear within days.

“By December 12 or 13, everyone will know where the governor is headed,” he stated. “He has resigned already, and the timeline for party primaries and nominations ends on December 15.”

Alimi maintained that Adeleke’s resignation was unnecessary and would not have occurred if the PDP had remained united at the national level.
