The Association of Nigerian Theater Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has dismissed rumour that the veteran Nollywood actor, Lere Paimo, popularly known as ‘Eda Oni’le Ola’, has passed away.

Some social media platforms had in the early hours of Saturday announced the passing of the 86-year-old Ogbomoso, Oyo State-born veteran Thespian.

Debunking the report in a statement on Saturday, the National Public Relations Officer of the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP), Prince Adejonwo Oluwafemi Femson, affirmed that Chief Paimo is alive and in good health.

“We would like to inform the public that reports circulating on Facebook about the passing of Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) are false.

“We have confirmed with Baba Eda Onile Ola’s wife that he is alive and in good health.

“Please disregard these false reports and be aware that they are being spread by unscrupulous individuals.”

The association urged the public to disregard the rumour and verify information before sharing unconfirmed reports, warning against the spread of misinformation.

“We urge everyone to verify information before sharing to avoid spreading misinformation,” the statement said.

The association stressed that Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR), who is its Chairman Board of Trustee, is alive and well, calling on everyone to “verify information before sharing to avoid spreading misinformation.”

The 86-year-old, who is a holder of a National Awards holder of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR), is a veteran actor, filmmaker, producer and director who began acting in 1958 and has since been active in the industry, playing lead roles in many popular movies, including Saworoide, Oleku, Ogbori Elemonso, among many others.
