The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of an extensive eight-month road rehabilitation project along the Lekki-Ajah corridor, scheduled to run from November 15, 2025, to July 15, 2026.

The project, according to the state government, is aimed at improving road infrastructure and tackling the persistent traffic congestion that has long plagued one of Lagos’ busiest routes.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed that preliminary works have already begun. He explained that the construction will be executed in two strategic phases to minimize inconvenience to motorists.

“Phase One will cover the stretch from Lekki first toll gate to Lekki second toll gate and will be carried out in seven sections,” Osiyemi stated. “During construction, one of the two lanes will be closed, while motorists will use the other. Once the first lane is completed, work will shift to the second lane.”

He added that during this phase, motorists heading towards Lekki and Ajah would have a continuous through fare.

For Phase Two, Osiyemi noted that work would span from the Lekki second toll gate to the Ajah under-bridge, divided into four sections. “Motorists from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while repairs are ongoing. When the first lane is done, work will move to the second lane, ensuring steady movement towards Ajah,” he said.

The commissioner appealed for patience and cooperation from road users throughout the duration of the project, assuring that efforts are being made to maintain traffic flow despite partial closures.

“These repairs form part of the Lagos State Government’s broader commitment to improving road quality and easing traffic flow across the metropolis,” Osiyemi added.

The Lekki-Ajah corridor serves as a major artery for thousands of daily commuters and commercial vehicles, and the rehabilitation is expected to enhance road safety and travel efficiency upon completion.
