Nigerian activist and commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has warned that both Christians and Muslims would suffer if the United States were to invade Nigeria under the guise of protecting religious groups.
Shehu made the statement in a post shared on X on Wednesday, when he alleged that America’s growing interest in Nigeria is mainly driven by fear of China and the desire to control the country’s rare earth minerals.
According to him, “America’s fear of China and separate commercial considerations, including rare earth minerals, are the primary reasons for wanting to attack Nigeria. Protection of Christians from ‘persecution’ may be the second reason, which serves as a cover.”
He further claimed that both Nigerian Christians and Muslims would end up as victims if such an invasion were to happen, drawing comparisons with what happened in Afghanistan.
“Like in Afghanistan, after invading Nigeria, they will enter into lucrative mining site protection contracts with the same bandits, vandals, kidnappers, militias, and even arsonists,” Shehu alleged.
