Remove Not The Ancient Landmarks – George Ogunjimi

The phrase “Remove not the ancient landmark which thy fathers have set” (Proverbs 22:28) is a well-known biblical verse that emphasizes the importance of respecting established boundaries, both physical and metaphorical.

It’s not just about literal land markers, but also about honoring traditions, laws, and moral principles established by previous generations.

The principle can be applied to various aspects of life, including:

Law and order which is upholding existing laws and legal frameworks, cultural traditions by respecting and preserving cultural heritage and

moral principles where adhering to established ethical standards is a norm.

Another aspect of it is historical preservation that includes recognising and protecting historical sites and artifacts and community building by not undermining established social structures.

Essentially, the words serve as a reminder that societal progress and stability are often built upon the foundations laid by those who came before us and have made strides and stringent efforts at establishing codes, values, principles and landmarks.

Removing those foundations, whether intentionally or carelessly, can have negative consequences, if we must know.

This is the reason why most societies that seem to be well advanced not only safeguard their ancient landmarks but progressively advance on them without altering, defacing or lowering the value of the landmarks.

With the Arabian burial of His Majesty Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona few days ago, the Ijebu kingmakers have given up their sole rights to the rites of installing kings in Ijebu Ode.

The Sarki Muslims and the caliphate can be invited to usurp their sacred power in installing the next Awujale of Ijebu land and it would even be heresy to drag such rights and privileges with the Arabian cultural revolutionists and the Pope or the Archbishop of Canterbury could hold claim to such if the next oba elect happens to be Christian

May Olodumare shine our eyes to see light.
