The Labour Party’s National Caretaker Committee (LP-NCC), led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has suspended the party’s former National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, and former National Secretary, Alhaji Farouk Umar, for six months.

This decision was announced in a statement signed by Usman and the committee’s Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, in Abuja on Thursday night.

The suspensions followed the findings of a six-member disciplinary committee headed by Senator Ireti Kingibe, which was set up on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the Labour Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) reviewed the committee’s report, which revealed serious financial misconduct and anti-party activities involving Abure and others.

As a result, Abure has been suspended from his role and is barred from presenting himself as the party’s chairman during the suspension period.

Umar, who was identified as a co-signer in questionable bank withdrawals and transfers alongside Abure, has also been suspended for the same duration while further investigations continue.

In addition, all members of Abure’s National Working Committee have been ordered to stop acting as representatives of the party’s leadership.

The NEC warned that anyone who defies these directives will face tougher sanctions.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and discipline.

It’s worth noting that earlier in the week, Abure’s faction had announced the suspension of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, and four others for alleged anti-party activities.

However, the Usman-led committee dismissed this, stating that Abure and his team no longer have the authority to make such decisions following a Supreme Court ruling that ended Abure’s tenure.
