A 34-year-old man has reportedly been killed in what appears to be a rival cult attack in the Oluwo area of Adigbe in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The victim identified as Abdulazeez Olatunji Ojoro was shot dead on Sunday, February 24, 2025, at about 10:10pm.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police attributed the late AbdulAzeez’s death to his alleged involvement in illicit drug business in the area.

“Upon receiving a distress call about a shooting incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Adigbe promptly deployed a team of detectives to the scene”, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Omolola Odutola, stated in a press release.

According to the statement, the detectives arrived at the scene and found the deceased in a pool of his own blood.

“A closer examination revealed that he had sustained fatal gunshot wounds on his left eye and right chest, indicating that he was shot at close range,” he said

The assailants, suspected to be members of a rival cult group, were said to have fled the scene before police arrived at the scene.

Meanwhile, the late AbdulAzeez’s lifeless body has been deposited in a mortuary, while continuous patrols have been intensified in the area, to prevent further violence and track down those responsible.

The Ogun State Police Command, while condemning, in strong terms, the act of violence, reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on cultism and illicit drug activities.

It further advised those involved in cultism to denounce their membership, stating that law enforcement agencies remain committed to eradicating cult-related violence and criminal activities in the state.

“The public is urged to provide useful information that could assist the police in apprehending the culprits. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses”, the statement concluded.
