Debunking the news, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, in a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that the students and their hostel were not endangered by the fire, which was a case of bush burning near an isolated bamboo forest.

Akindele also revealed that the fire was promptly extinguished by stakeholders in the university community and the State Fire Service.

Expressing displeasure over the fake news, Akindele insisted that there was no explosion of any transformer, as there was no transformer at the site of the fire incident.

He said, “The fire was a case of bush burning near an isolated bamboo forest, which was promptly extinguished by stakeholders in the university community and the State Fire Service.

“There was no explosion of any transformer, as there was no transformer at the site of the fire incident.”

He explained that the university prioritizes the public health and safety of its stakeholders, which has led to the acquisition of a large quantity of fire extinguishers.

Allaying the fears of stakeholders, he advised people to always cross-check the facts in order to avoid being misled by rumor-mongers whose business is to cause disaffection and destabilization.

“People should always cross-check the facts in order to avoid being misled by rumor-mongers whose business is to cause disaffection and destabilization.”

Earlier, information in town had stated that there was a fire outbreak that threatened lives and property on campus around 8:45 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025.
