NIS confirmed its online payment platform for passport applications had hitches.

The announcement came in the wake of reports from Nigerians finding it difficult to complete their applications through the online portal.

In a statement: “Technical Glitches with Online Payment Platform,” NIS noted the downtime and regretted the inconvenience caused.

The statement assured the public seamless service will be restored soon.

But many decried the system, and wondered why it is taking long to be resolved.

Lagos-based fintech analyst, Epa Stevens, said platforms like Interswitch and Remita have supported on Treasury Single Account (TSA).

“However, with NIS transition to a new payment platform, we’ve witnessed a breakdown. This disrupts services and raises concerns about adequacy of the platform to handle demands of TSA effectively.”

Michael Adigun, said he cannot pay for a new passport.

Obinna Okafor, an importer, who needs to travel to China, said “NIS should provide alternative payment channel’’.
