According to a statement attributed to the Office of Infrastructure, Old Ojo Road, located in Oriade Area of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, is a 7,650metre Single Carriageway with dilapidated surfaced road with an average width of 10metres.

The state government, having decided to upgrade the road into dual carriageway to serve as a strategic by-pass for motorists from Kirikiri Area/Ajeromi Ifelodun to Ojo Local Government Area, awarded the contract for the reconstruction project in July 2022 and commenced work on 24th August 2022.

For the convenience of delivery, the road, which is also parallel to Lagos-Badagry Expressway from Mazamaza to Trade Fair, was divided into two phases.

The first phase, with a length of 4000 meters with an average width of 15.2m spanning from Irede Road to Oluti Bus Stop, was awarded to Messrs. CCECC Nigeria Limited with a stipulated completion period of 18 Months.

It also has 17 adjoining roads, each with a length of 10m to be delivered in the contract.

According to the statement, the road project, upon completion, aside from complementing the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, ease transportation of goods and services to jetties along the corridor is also expected to generate direct and indirect employment and will increase property value within the area.

The road project will encourage additional industrial development in the zone and improve the socio-economic development of Amuwo Odofin Division.

The scope of work for the project includes the Acquisition of Right-of-Way and relocation of public utilities, including water pipes, telecommunication facilities, electric poles, and transformers.

Others are the construction of reinforced concrete drains with concrete cover as walkways, provision of median barrier, provision of sand-cement stabilization; provision of crushed stones as base course; provision of reinforced concrete rigid pavement; and provision of longitudinal and transverse service ducts.

It also encompasses the provision of cross culverts and outfall drains at specific locations, provision of streetlights (white led lights) with power generating sets, traffic signalization with sensors at designated locations, provision of bus shelters at lay bye locations, Kerb painting and lane marking, among others.

“Presently, the contractor is working assiduously on site, and the project is progressing steadily at over 20 percent completion,” the statement read.
