This is in line with a court verdict which recognised Professor Ifagbemi Awamaridi as the authentic governorship candidate of the party in the state.

According to a letter signed by the state Secretary of Labour Party, Sam Okpala and dated Friday, March 17, the party confirmed that it has communicated the development to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The letter reads: “Our attention has been drawn to the news circulating on social media and some mainstream medium pertaining to the reinstatement of Professor Fagbemi Awamaridi as the validly nominated gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party by 8 court of competent jurisdiction.

“We wish to state categorically that the Labour Party leadership reckon and agree that the petitioner participated in the organized Primary Elections and was declared winner.

“However, the political arrangement that brought Mr Gbadegbo Rhodes-Vivour into the equation isn’t one for public consumption.

“We can confirm we are in receipt of the said court ruling and have communicated our intentions through our legal team to comply with the rulings to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Consequently, as a law-abiding political party whose core principle is to adhere strictly to the rule of law and uphoid same, we are alerting members of the public and our teeming members that Professor Ifagbemi Awamaridi is our governorship candidate in Lagos state for the scheduled gubernatorial elections taking place tomorrow, 18th of March, 2023”, the letter read.
