Barely one week to the forthcoming presidential election, a spokesperson for Tinubu, Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, has insisted that his principal deserves the support of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The statement is contained in a post via his Twitter handle on Saturday.

Onanuga noted that Tinubu campaigned vigorously for Buhari during the 2015 presidential election, adding that he (Buhari) should do the same for Tinubu now that he is running for president.

He wrote, “Tinubu then in 2014/2015 campaigning vigorously for Muhammadu Buhari in Abeokuta. It should be payback time, I believe.”

Onanuga said this in reaction to the recent declarations by President Buhari, which are perceived to be targeted against Tinubu’s presidential ambition.

Top APC chieftains and concerned individuals have asserted that the new Naira redesign policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), done with the Nigerian leader’s consent, was meant to truncate Tinubu’s campaign event.

Many acknowledged that the policy was a good development but that the timing was wrong.

Onanuga noted that Tinubu campaigned vigorously for Buhari during the 2015 presidential election, adding that he expected Buhari to do the same for Tinubu now that he is seeking to be president.

Meanwhile, the APC Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC) has come out to clear the air about the link of its flag bearer, Tinubu, with the party’s governors who disobeyed the directive of President Buhari over the old naira deadline.

JomogNews understands that the campaign council has described as fake news an alleged publication by the Peoples Gazette insinuating that Tinubu was responsible for ordering the said APC governors to disobey the president’s directive and enforce the Supreme Court ruling on the recirculation of old naira notes.

The APC-PCC Director of Media and Publicity of the council, Onanuga, said in a statement on Friday in Abuja that the viral news published by the platform, as mentioned earlier, was fake news.

Therefore, the council requests that the newspaper recant the story immediately.

Onanuga submitted that the APC flag bearer did not influence any decision taken over the policy and doesn’t know anything about the said publication.

He clarified that neither Tinubu nor the APC-PCC Adviser on Media and Communications, Dele Alake issued such an advisory on behalf of Asiwaju Tinubu.

He said it was unthinkable to conceive that Tinubu would order such action to be taken to disobey the president’s directive over the naira notes issue.
