Recall that Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, while suspecting foul play in a bank, arrested its operations manager for loading new notes in the bank’s ATMs with the cash wrappers unremoved.

ICPC said the bank’s actions prevented the loaded cash from being dispensed by the ATM.

However, residents of Oshogbo have accused banks and their agents of being responsible for the ongoing scarcity.

Temitope Fasekun, a student said the new Naira notes were available at different parties but not available in banks and ATMs.

He accused the staff members of different banks of selling the new notes to vendors and causing the scarcity,

“This crisis has exposed Nigerian banks as corrupt outlets,” he said.

Ikechukwu Nnamchi, a health expert said, “This is better, but I would have appreciated if the face of the bank manager or the man loading the ATM is displayed the way you display the face of ordinary citizens for racketeering.”

Idris Oni, a student added, “This is exactly what banks are doing. Officially, the cash has been dispensed. They sell them later to higher bidders leaving ordinary citizens stranded and helpless. God is not punishing us. We are the ones punishing ourselves with our greed and wickedness.”

Esther Arogundade, a trader said, “This is another proof that we’re the ones punishing ourselves and until we realize this and change for the better, we’ll just continue to blame govt and no positive change will come.”

Meanwhile, DAILY POST learnt that in some banks, tally numbers and spaces are being sold for as high as N1000 for anybody interested.

When customers arrive at banks, they are given numbers which will allow for a smooth transaction for the day but some customers come earlier, get these numbers and resell to other customers thereby making money through it.

Also, most POS operators within Osogbo charge between N500 to N750 for every N5000 withdrawn rather than the N100 previously collected as charges.
