In a message signed by its Directorate Director, Princess Adeola Atayero Olamijulo, the self determination coalition of Yoruba interests groups said the action of the police undermined even the provisions of the highly repudiated Constitution of Nigeria 1999 which provides for freedom of association and assembly and various court decisions affirming the sanctity of rallies in Nigeria.

She described the police action as “callous, overzealous, self-serving and unreasonable”.

According to reliable sources, the Yoruba self determination canvassers merely assembled themselves at the Freedom Park in Ojota when the police swooped on them like vultures and snuffed live out of a young participant at the rally.

Every Nigerian citizen has inalienable right to peaceful public demonstration without being gagged or disturbed.

The Yọruba nation self determination canvassers have always been peaceful and resilient when not accosted and attacked by the police.

What played out on Sunday the super mega rally in Lagos started is reminiscent of the #Endsars saga and the intolerance of those in power whose actions continually tend towards despotism.

Princess Olamijulo further encouraged the Yọruba nation self determination canvassers to shun hooliganism even in the face of apparent provocation and intimidation by the Nigeria police and other overzealous goverment securty agencies.

She also cautions Yoruba citizens to refrain from utterances that could easily be construed as inciting insurrection against Nigeria which is a sovereign Nation as far as international laws, treaties and conventions are concerned.

Princess Adeola Atayero Olamijulo stated that no Yoruba person or leaders’ actions must be seen to be putting Yoruba youths in arm’s way.

Princess Olamijulo concluded by commiserating with the parents of the late agitator killed by the police and prayed for the repose of the soul of the young man
