The State Security Service have locked up one Aminu Adamu Muhammed, a student of the Federal University, Dutse, over a Twitter post he made on June 8, 2022, deeming defamatory against Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari.

Peoples Gazette reported that Aminu had in June posted on Twitter that Mrs. Buhari had suddenly added massive weight after taking part in plundering the nation’s meagre resources as the masses endured hardship under her husband’s regime.

In the June 8 tweet, Mr. Muhammed chastised Mrs. Buhari in Hausa, saying: “Su mama an ci kudin talakawa an koshi”, which is translated as “a mother that has gotten fatter, after eating poor masses’ money.”

Aminu’s friends said he made the post because he was frustrated about the prolonged strike by universities across the country. The strike, which started in early 2022, ended after nine long months.

Peoples Gazette further reported that a family source said Aminu, 23, was picked up by officers on November 8, on the campus ground of Federal University, Dutse, in Jigawa State. The student was reportedly subjected to severe beating by the officers, following his arrest at about 12:00 noon.

He was summarily transferred to Abuja and was briefly allowed to contact his father, Adamu Shalele Azare to intimate him of his location, which the family earlier thought was a Police Station.
