A woman, Okereke Olufunmilayo, who was the Manager at a building materials store, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and killing her employer, Otunba Abayomi Ajayi Smith, the Director of Rolak Hotel Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Olufunmilayo was said to have perpetrated the act with the aid of her husband, Larry Adebayo Adewumi and one Adebowale Sanni.
According to DAILY POST, the hotelier was kidnapped on September 28, 2020, around about 7:30 am, at Anifowose Estate Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode by some gunmen.
He was killed by his abductors despite the N15 million ransom paid to them by his family.
Since then, police operatives have not given up in their efforts to unravel those behind the abduction and killing of the hotelier.
According to the Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the efforts of the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led anti-kidnapping team were successful in September this year, when they got wind of plans by the same gang to kidnap the wife and son of their slain victim, Smith.
As the team embarked on technical surveillance for the suspects, one of them, 55-year-old Adebowale Sanni, was reportedly traced to Ikeji Arakeji in Osun State, where he was promptly apprehended.
On interrogation, Oyeyemi said Sanni confessed being on the trail of Mrs Olusola Roseline Ajayi, on the order of Larry Adebayo Adewumi the ring leader, whose wife, Olufunmilayo was an employee of Otunba Ajayi.
“He confessed further that it was Larry who described the location of the victim’s hotel and his other business outfits to him with instruction that if they succeeded in kidnapping the woman and her son, the two of them must be killed after collecting ransom in order not to leave any traces, just as they did to her husband two years ago,” Oyeyemi stated.
His confession, it was learnt, led to the arrest of Olufunmilayo and her husband.
According to Oyeyemi, Larry, an indigene of Ilesha Osun State, was once a fraudster before he moved into full-time kidnapping business.
“His modus operandi was to scout for a rich victim, after which he will mobilize the gang working for him to go after such a person,” Oyeyemi explained.
The said Larry was reported to have got full information about the late Otunba Ajayi through Olufunmilayo, who was the deceased’s Manager.
Police investigation has revealed that Larry has two bank accounts, “where he used to keep money realized from his criminal activities.”
Oyeyemi disclosed that the suspect has a Jaiz Bank account number, 0010913206, with the sum of N34,953,455. His Access Bank account also has a sum of N4,576,846.
It was gathered that a 2014 model Toyota Highlander was also recovered from him.
While commending the police team, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, directed that other members of the gang be hunted for and brought to book, directing that the suspects be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

I killed My Friend, Sold Head, Heart For N200,000 – Man Confesses In Ogun
A man identified as Idowu Abel had confessed to the police how he and his accomplice, Clement Adeniyi, killed his close friend, Adekunle Muyiwa, in cold blood, for ritual purposes, JomogNews reports.
A statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, gave the names of the suspects as Idowu Abel, Clement Adeniyi and Pastor Felix Ajadi.
He said they were arrested following a report lodged at Owode Yewa divisional headquarters on the 15th of November 2022 by one Oluwaseyi Adekunle, the elder brother of the victim, who reported that his younger brother left home on 10th of November 2022 and hadn’t returned home since then.
“Upon the report, the DPO Owode Yewa division, CSP Mohammed S. Baba, detailed his Crack detectives to unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the man.
In the course of their investigation, it was discovered that Idowu Abel was the person who came to pick the missing man from his house on that fateful day. Upon the discovery, the said Idowu Abel was traced and arrested.
On interrogation, Idowu Abel confessed that the victim, who happened to be his bosom friend was lured out by him and taken to his second accomplice, Clement Adeniyi’s farm where he was killed and butchered to pieces.
He confessed further that it was one herbalist who was introduced to him by pastor Felix Ajadi that requested for human head, heart, two hands, and legs. He stated further that the said herbalist who is now at large promised to pay him the sum of N200,000 if he is able to get the listed human parts for him.
He explained further that the herbalist paid N80,000 as advance payment with the promise to pay the balance of N120,000 on receiving the items.
After collecting the advance payment, Idowu Abel went to his bosom friend Muyiwa Adekunle and asked him to escort him to somewhere.
Being a long time friend, the victim who didn’t suspect any foul play followed him innocently, and he was taken to the farm of Clement Adeniyi where they killed him and dismembered his body. His head was cut off, the heart was also removed.
The remaining parts was hurriedly buried in a shallow grave in the said farm.” the statement in part read.
Oyeyemi added that the friend’s confession led to the arrest of Clement Adeniyi and Pastor Felix Ajadi, while the herbalist who was simply identified as Abeeb a.k.a Boko has taken to flight.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation. He also directed that the fleeing herbalist must be hunted and brought to book.
Oyeyemi said Abel revealed that he was paid N80,000 as the advance payment, with a promise that the N120,000 would be paid on delivery of the items.
After collecting the advance payment, Abel had gone to Muyiwa, asking him to follow him somewhere.
“As a long time friend, the victim who didn’t suspect any foul play, followed him innocently. He was taken to Clement Adeniyi’s farm, where they killed him and dismembered his body. His head was cut off, the heart was also removed. The remaining parts were buried in a shallow grave in the said farm,” Oyeyemi said.
Abel’s confession, DAILY POST learnt, had led to the arrest of his accomplice and the Pastor.
However, the herbalist, simply identified as Abeeb (a.k.a Boko) is still being hunted for by the police.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State CIID for discreet investigation, while directing that the fleeing herbalist must be brought to book.
