The police charged Mr Okafor who resides in Oworonshoki Lagos, with one count of defilement.

The Magistrate, M.O. Tanimola, who did not take Mr Okafor’s plea, directed the police to send the case file to the Lagos director of public prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until May 12 for DPP advice.

Prosecution counsel Donjour Perezi told the court that Mr Okafor committed the offence sometime in 2021, in his residence at Oworonshoki. He said that the defendant defiled his 12- year-old stepdaughter.

The police said the matter was reported at the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Agency, Alausa.

He accused Mr Okafor of sexually abusing his stepdaughter twice and her mother, allegedly aware and even caught her husband red-handed once, refused to take any legal action.

Child defilement attracts life imprisonment according to the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2005.
