A State of Emergency is imperative because the government cannot just fold its hands and continue to look away while innocent citizens are being hacked to death by bestial individuals. Enough must be said to be enough.

I watched with anger the viral video of four young boys between the ages of 17 to 19 who hacked to death a girl of about 16 years old and when they were questioned about their motives, they confessed to using her body parts for money making rituals.

This is a replica of what’s abound in all the nooks and crannies of the country.

Then came the sad story of beautiful angelic Hanifa who was poisoned by her evil teacher after receiving ransom from the young girl’s parents in a kidnap plot.

How low more can a nation sink to, before it realises that actions need to be taken? I wept profusely seeing the the pictures and listening to the sad episode of how the evil teacher and his accomplice ended the young girl’s life.

Not done with these foregoing episodes, came the daylight robbery attack news from Ibadan. It was like seeing a movie with police and members of the public as casualties.

The pictures were too gruesome and it seems to be daily occurrence in the whole country with highways being taken over by bandits n both the the North and the South of the country.

Has the government forgotten her social contracts with the people?

This is what comes to mind in all these. It seems the government is abdicating its responsibilities of provision of security to lives and property in accordance to the laws.

Nigeria has definitely not had it this bad in all its over 61 years of independence from the United Kingdom and there are no signs of situations subsiding unless a firm action is taken.

My name is George Olufemi Ogunjimi and I join other well meaning Nigerians to demand for a State of Emergency on violent crimes in the country.
