All Progressives Congress Governors To Meet Buhari On National Convention

Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Sunday night resolved at their meeting in Abuja to meet with President Buhari to discuss the national convention and other matters.

Governor Atiku Bagudu, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum said this at the end of its meeting.

The Progressive Governors Forum’s meeting which started around 8 pm, took place behind closed doors was chaired by Governor Atiku Bagudu, at the Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro.

Senator Abubabar Bagudu said issues relating to how to move the party forward were discussed.

He added that the Progressives Governors’ Forum also passed a vote of confidence on the National Caretaker Committee of the party, led by the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.

It was also gathered that zoning of party offices ahead of the national convention was discussed.

The party is currently divided on the issue of the convention as some stakeholders want it held before Christmas while others are pushing for the second quarter of next year.

It was also gathered that the crisis in the party and the direct primary clause in the Electoral Act were on the agenda.

As of 8.30pm, at least 17 of the governors were already seated for the meeting.

Those in attendance included the host and Kebbi governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, his counterparts from Kogi, Nasarawa, Katsina, Plateau, Ekiti, Jigawa, Kano, Kwara, Imo, Borno, Ebonyi, Lagos, Zamfara, Niger, Ogun and Cross River. The Governors of Osun, Yobe, Gombe and Kaduna states were still being expected.

At the end of the meeting, Bagudu said “we agreed as a forum to seek an appointment with the President and discuss with him the oncoming National Convention of the party”.

He said no decision on the matter could be reached until they they had meet with the “leader of the party”.

“We are just one organ of the party,” he noted.

He said the recommendations made at the meeting would be disclosed to journalists.
