To celebrate this year Lions World Sight Day with the theme “Love Your Eyes”, the Lions Clubs in Region 2 of District 404A1, Nigeria comprising Yaba, Lagos Eko, Lagos Achievers, Yaba Centennial, Yaba Golden, Marina, Lagos Hybrid and Lagos New Century Lions Clubs offered free eye screening to hundreds of people in their core localities.

Of course, Free Blood Sugar and Blood Pressure tests were also conducted as part of the full day exercise which was conducted by medical personnel from Ajayi Medical Centre, Ikorodu.

Over one hundred people out of those screened received free eye glasses courtesy the Lions clubs

According to the Region Chairperson, Lion Moruf Jebe, the clubs already have it as part of their plans to send those discovered to have serious eye challenges after the screening for further screening and medical advice at the Ajayi Medical Centre while those discovered to have cataract will also be sponsored for free cataract surgery at a later date – all free of charge.

Some of the members of the communities expressed their appreciation to the Lions clubs for their gesture and like Oliver Twist, asked the Lions clubs to extend the exercise beyond one day.

The Region Coordinator for the project, Lion Bolare Abioye, who addressed the crowd after the exercise informed them that eye screening exercise is a regular project in Lions Clubs as one of the major causes of the Lions Clubs International, so the clubs will definitely fix a date for another exercise so they can attend to those who were unable to benefit now due to the large crowd.
