FEC Approves N59.350bn For Road, Aviation Contracts

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved roads and aviation contracts worth N59.350bn across the country.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday in Abuja approved over N59 billion for different road construction and rehabilitation in Kano, Kaduna, Jos and Federal Capital Territorty (FCT).

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Bello and Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed made this known Wednesday while speaking to journalists.

While about N50.8 billion of the sum was approved for the construction of Yakassai-Badume-Damagum-Makinzali Road in Kano as well as the rehabilitation of Kaduna-Kanbegua-Jos Road, another N7.7 billion was approved for the construction of some FCT roads.
The council also approved over N1 billion for varying aviation projects.

Briefing reporters after the 27th weekly virtual FEC meeting, Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola said: “The Ministry of Works and Housing presented one memorandum for the award of contract for the construction of two roads; the Yakassai-Badume-Damagum-Makinzali Road in Kano, in favour of CCECC for N12.157 billion and the rehabilitation of the Kaduna-Panbegua-Jos Road, linking Kaduna and Plateau states, in favour of Setraco Nigeria Limited, for N38.701 billion and the proposals were approved by the Federal Executive Council.”

Bello, while speaking, said the council approved the sum of N431,640, 286 as revised estimated total cost/augmentation of the contract for the construction of Yaba-Kpahe Road, in Kwali/Abaji Area Councils in the FCT to open up rural areas in the territory which are predominantly agricultural areas.

The minister said the revision had made the cost of the contract to increase from N914,189,200 to N1,345,829,486.

He said the contract awarded to Messrs COAN (W.A) Ltd had the completion period of 12 months.
