Vendor’s widow, whose husband was shot dead by Security detail attached to Speaker Gbajabiamila, has dissociated herself from the N500m being demanded from the Speaker by her husband’s family.
Jomog News Nigeria reports that Mrs Josephine Okereke, widow of Ifeanyi Okereke, the newspaper vendor shot dead by Security detail attached to Speaker of the House of Representatives, has dissociated herself from the N500m being demanded from the Speaker as compensation for the death of her husband.
The vendor was shot dead by an Operative of the Department of State Services while the Speaker has given assurance that the wife and children of the late vendor will be adequately taken care of while his family will get adequate Justice.
However, the family of Ifeanyichukwu Okereke had written to Gbajabiamila, on November 23, 2020, through their lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), demanding N500m as compensation.
Josephine who spoke at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday, said that none of the family members informed or sought her consent before embarking on any action.
She claimed that she was not aware of the pre-litigation process and urged the Speaker to ignore the family but rather fulfil his promises to her and her two children.
The DSS had last week arrested the operative, Abdullahi Hassan, who shot Okereke while Gbajabiamila had also visited the family of the deceased and promised to ensure that they do not suffer.
However, the family demanded more, adding that nothing could bring the dead vendor back to life.
