At least 47 cows have been reportedly killed in Oshogbo when the coach detached from a train on Wednesday.
Jomog News Nigeria reports that, 47 cows worth over N10m have been crushed to death by a train in Osogbo, Osun State, when the coach detached from a train.
It was gathered the train was heading to Kwara when the incident happened at about 3:09pm at the back of the regional office of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, around Power Line Area in Osogbo.
An eyewitness identified as Oredola said the last coach of the train, which was heading for Kwara State, carried stones, detached, and derailed from the track when it got to Power Line, Osogbo, and killed the cows.
Speaking to journalists, a herdsman identified as Rabiu Ismail, who expressed sadness over the incident told journalists that the dead animals were worth over N10m.
“I am not happy about this incident at all. I have lost cows. The cows that died were worth N10 millions,” he lamented.
According to Ismail, “We just heard a loud noise and the animals were moving not far from the rail line. Many of them were crushed. About 47 animals worth N10m were lost.” he lamented.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has reacted following the viral report that a train on Wednesday in Osogbo lost track and killed ’47’ cows.
Contrary to viral report, the Osun Command Police Public Relations Officer, Opalola Yemisi said: “It is not 47 cows that were killed. They are 41 cows. 37 cows were killed by the train while the remaining 4 were injured.”
“We just heard a loud noise and the animals were moving not far from the rail line. Many of them were crushed. About 47 animals worth N10m were lost.” he lamented.
