As part of efforts aimed at improving the sight of Nigerians and in commemoration of the World Sight Day, members of Ikorodu Doyen Lions Club last weekend provided free eye screening to residents of Aga community in Ikorodu.
In a chat with with our reporter, the president, Lion Femi Aluko said over three hundred and fifty residents benefited from the programme adding that free eye glasses were also distributed. He also said the club would finance over twenty beneficiaries whose cases require surgical operation.
According to him, “in Lionism worldwide, the month of October is very important to us. That is when we do this sight project. Our main focus is sight.
We have fourteen Lions Club in Ikorodu and each of them would do this exercise in different communities on 8th and 15th of October and you can imagine the impact it will have.”
He also said Lions Club is the only humanitarian Club recognized by United Nations adding that UN has set a day aside in honour of the club’s selfless service to humanity.
Chairman of the programme, Lion Aderemi Bello noted that vision is very important in the life of any human being.
“If you are blind, you cannot see. Lions noticed that and we said we agreed to give vision to the less privileged.” He said.
Similarly, Chairman of the Community Development Association, Aga Tutun, Ikorodu, Alh. Kola Akinsanya described the programme as commendable.
According to him, one of the best programme was brought to my community and we appreciate them for the gesture.
Expressing her appreciation, one of the beneficiaries, Alaba Odunsi also commended the club for the gesture and urged them to do more.
