The ongoing collation of the Edo Gubernatorial election is currently experiencing a hold as the Independent National Electoral Commission officials requested for a fresh 2-hour break as they await the last two Local Areas result.

EyewitnessMedia gathered that the agent of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Ogbeide Ihama swiftly countered the request, urging the officials to go ahead with the available Oriowon Local Government Area while they await the last one.

However, the INEC officials who failed to respond to the request began to leave their seats one after the order, putting a pause to the long awaited process.

Currently, Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party has recorded more votes from the results of the 13 Local Governments declared so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Although 17 political parties have fielded candidates for the election, it is a two-way race between All Progressives Congress and PDP.

Incumbent Governor Obaseki of PDP ran against APC standard-bearer Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Obaseki was elected on APC’s platform in 2016 but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket owing to intra-party squabbles.

The PDP scored 240,935 while APC had 154, 192 votes from the declared results in the 13 LGAs.

Obaseki is leading Ize-Iyamu by a wide margin of over 80,000 votes.
