Stop Justifying Rape Or Get Arrested As Suspects-NAPTIP Boss

Mrs Julie Okah-Donli, Director-General (DG), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has cautioned Nigerians to desist from justifying rape or get arrested as suspects.
Okah-Donli said this while answering questions from newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.
She queried parents for not doing enough to take care of their wards and children, explaining that 90 per cent of rape cases were committed by uncles, fathers and relations.
According to her, many careless acts by parents are responsible for rape cases across the country.
She, therefore, said that the agency would approach the Ministry of Justice to push for the establishment of special court to try rapists.
Okah-Donli also called for life imprisonment instead of capital punishment for convicted rapists, adding that there was need to educate Nigerians, especially neighbours on rape issues.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the agency’s toll-free lines to call during distress, especially as it concerns rape are – 07030000203, 0802255627847 and 08077225566.
The NAPTIP boss said that cases could also be reported on social media platforms such as the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, among others.
She, however, said that there was no national template of victims’ trauma response to share pain, adding that the duration of psychological trauma varies from individuals.

29-Year-Old Mother Of One Slaughtered On Her Farm In Ogun

A 29-year-old mother of one, Mrs Gloria Peter Ajine, has been murdered while harvesting vegetables on her farm, in Ilewo Orile, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Gloria, who was described by her family as hardworking and devoted, went to her farm in the afternoon to harvest vegetables, but she never returned home.
Speaking on the murder of his wife, her husband, Mr Peter Ajine, said: “I still cannot believe she’s gone. Gloria was the light of our family. She went to the farm to gather food for us, for our son, for the market. Who would do this to her? She didn’t deserve to die like this. My heart is shattered.”
The family revealed that Gloria was found hours later on her farm, lying lifeless in a pool of blood.
Ajine called the murder of his wife “an unspeakable act of violence that has left a void in our lives.”
He said: “Gloria was the kind of person who would light up a room. She was hardworking, loving and full of dreams for her family. To think that she died in such a horrific way is unbearable.”
He, however, called on law enforcement agencies to launch a full investigation into the murder and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Holding their one-year-old child in his arms, Peter made an emotional plea to the authorities.
“I have lost my wife, my partner, and my best friend. Our son has lost his mother,” he lamented.
Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson for Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, proved abortive as she did not respond to her calls.

Anambra: Police Confirm Killing Of EFCC Operative By Suspected Yahoo Boys

The Nigeria Police has confirmed that armed internet fraudsters fatally attacked an officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Anambra, leaving another critically injured.
Jomog News reports that the incident occurred on Friday when the EFCC team came under fire during an operation targeting suspected cybercriminals, commonly referred to as Yahoo Boys. The unexpected gunshots caused the officers to retreat for safety.
The team had traveled from their zonal headquarters in Enugu to carry out the assignment.
The slain officer, identified as an assistant superintendent, had recently passed a promotional examination. Meanwhile, the injured officer remains in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital as of Friday night.
“We no longer have life insurance,” an officer disclosed anonymously, highlighting that compensation for fallen officers’ families had not been issued since the tenure of Farida Waziri.
Another officer lamented the situation, saying, “The families of the officer that died today won’t be getting anything. So can we say he died for nothing?”
Anambra State Police Command Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway.
“Investigation into the sad incident is ongoing. The suspect is in custody while the arm has been recovered. Further details shall be communicated, please,” Ikenga told Daily Trust.

Suspected Cultists Kill Barber In Ogun, Slit His Left Wrist And Flees With It

Suspected cultists attacked and killed a 30-year-old barber, Toheen Folarin, in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Tuesday, January 7.
A statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, says the victim was said to be working in his shop when, suddenly, at about 10pm, the assailants emerged and shot him on the left side of the chest. Before fleeing the scene, the assailants severed the victim’s left hand and made away with it.
On receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Obantoko mobilized and led a team of detectives, with additional support from a patrol team and the Anti-cultism Unit of Adatan Area Command at the scene, where they found the victim in a pool of his own blood and his severed hand.
A scene was thereafter created as attempts by the officers to extricate the corpse to the mortuary were vehemently protested by irate youths, saying, as a Moslem, he had to be buried in accordance with Islamic rite.
Odutola added that the command had launched a manhunt for the killers and that the heightened tension and restiveness that greeted the incident had been put under control.
