Professor Ibrahim Gambari, a former Under Secretary-General of the United Nations has denied knowledge of his appointment as the new Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Although his appointment was widely reported, the Presidency has neither confirmed nor deny the report as at the time of filing the report.
An associate of the one-time minister of External Affairs, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told RootstvNigeria that Professor Gambari has no knowledge of his appointment as the new Chief-of-Staff.
It was also gathered that one of the factions battling to have the firm control of the Presidency leaked the information to the media just to spite others perceived as oppositions within the Presidential Villa.
RootstvNigeria also confirmed that the unofficial announcement of Gambari as the new Chief-of-Staff has rattled many members of the President’s ‘kitchen’ cabinet who were still wondering how the planned pronouncement of Gambari as the new CoS got leaked to the media.
It was gathered that the President had planned to unveil Gambari as his new Chief-of-Staff on Wednesday during the virtual Federal Executive Council Meeting.
If confirmed on Wednesday, Professor Gambari will succeed the former Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who died of coronavirus (COVID-19) complications
