POLICE detectives attached to Ogun State Police Command Abeokuta, South-West Nigeria are currently grilling a middle-aged woman and housewife Sukurat Olufowobi for allegedly beating her 5 year old step son to death and hurriedly buried him to conceal her dastardly act. The deceased identified as Azeem Olufowobi said to be a child of circumstance was gotten out of wedlock adding that his father, Ayuba Olufowobi had gone to his estranged former live-in-lover and mother of Azeem to pick him so he could live with him (the father) and his new wife for proper upbringing; including sending him to school. CrimeWorld scooped however, that not long after Azeem started living with his father and stepmother that she started hating him. It was gathered that in some cases, the little child would be left without food for a whole day adding that when he complained to his father such complaint was dismissed with a wave of the hand. The next day, Azeem would have to face a heavier hurdle, including being seriously beaten for daring to complain of the ill-treatment to his father. But the atrocities of the childless Sukurat got to a head after she reportedly inflicted a deep cut on Azeem’s skull for daring to ask for food after returning from school; prompting neighbours of Oshodi-Oke, Ogijo in Shagamu LAG of Ogun State where the couple also resided to report the evil act to the Police not knowing that little Azeem had giving up the ghost in a nearby Clinic having lost so much blood. But before Police operatives could arrive the scene, Sukurat and her husband were said to have conspired together and buried the deceased to conceal her act.
Spokesperson to the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the sad incident in a statement said, the victim died as a result of the injury sustained on his skull. According to him, “The suspect, who is a resident of Oshodi-Oke Area of Ogijo, Sagamu LGA, was arrested alongside her husband, Ayuba Olufowobi, following a report received at Ogijo Divisional Police Headquarters that a 5 year old boy named Azeem was beaten to death by the suspect and in order to conceal her dastardly act, connived with her husband and hurriedly took the corpse of the victim to Ajah in Lagos state where he was secretly buried

Continuing, Oyeyemi said, “Operatives at Ogijo Division led by Suleman Baba Muhammed quickly mobilized his detectives to the scene where the couple who were said to have been packing their belongings in order to flee the area was promptly arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman has been maltreating the victim whose mother has separated from the father due to irreconcilable differences. On the fateful day, the boy was beaten on the head with a heavy object which caused him a broken skull resulting to his eventual death. The nurse who gave the victim first aid treatment and informed the couple of her observation was pleaded with by the woman and her friend to lie about the cause of the victim death but she refused because it is against the ethics of her profession. They are currently helping the Police in their investigation and the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department SCIID for further investigation and prosecution.”
