FATHER WHO WAS ACCUSED OF DEFILING HIS MINOR KIDS WALKS FREELY IN LAGOS

Against the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s promise to wield “the big stick” on perpetrators of rape, domestic violence and child abuse in the Lagos, a Magistrate in the state has granted bail in a most controversial manner, to Oluwaseun Olomo, 41, a father of two who was accused of defiling his two minor children.

The governor had during the “Walk to Commit and Act”, commemorating the day in line with United Nations declaration against gender-based violence, maintained that the State is working hard with its police command and all relevant agencies to bring the crime to zero point.

The grandmother of the children, Mrs. Elizabeth Iluyomade, the mother of Modupe, is also crying foul over the case and equally alleging threat to her life.

Modupe’s death had led to a lot of controversy, suspicion and intrigues before it eventually culminated in a case before Magistrate B.O Osunsanmi in Ogba, Ikeja Magistrate District, Lagos.

Olomo’s mother-in-law contended that the children (Fiyinfoluwa and Folakemi) had to reside with her after the death of their mother on June 3rd to stave off the post death emotional trauma.

She added that she started noticing a strange bowel movement and behavior patterns of the children and decided to carry out medical examination on the on July 5th 2019 at the General Hospital Isolo.

While this was on, the “war over the custody of the children” began. “My opinion was that since Olomo, my son-in-law is an Uber driver, who will not be available to take care of the children, it will be proper to have custody of the children for now” she said.

Olomo refused and instead allegedly brought members of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC to threaten his mother- in –law, and also petition the Police in Zone two, Onikan, Lagos.

While the dispute was spiraling, Iluyomade approached the Lagos State Office of Public Defender, OPD, concerning the health of the children, from where she was referred to the Mirabel Center at the Lagos State College of Medicine, LASUTH, Ikeja.

Several tests conducted at Mirabel Center later revealed that the two year old Folakemi had been penetrated severally and serially from her vagina and anus. It was also discovered that the five year old boy Fiyinfoluwa had been penetrated through his anus.

Armed with the medical report and the video evidence where the boy confessed that the act was done by their father, the OPD referred the matter to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command since according to them, the matter has morphed into a criminal offence in which Olomo, the father of the children is a prime suspect.

The case was allegedly subjected to a lot of manipulation at the Gender Unit before the Muazu Zubairu, Lagos Commissioner of Police at that time, who ordered the IPO at the Gender Unit, Kuinle Orebe to file “an Action right away”.

Eventually, Iluyomade alleged that when the application for Remand Order was heard, Magistrate Osunsanmi granted the suspect bail, according to her, “because there was no sufficient evidence before her to link the suspect to the crime.”

The Magistrate, also held that the statement for the arrangement of the children filed by the Respondent (Olomo) is more credible and acceptable to the court that that filed by the Applicant (Iluyomade). It also held that the independent investigative report from the Social Work department showed that the Respondent is a responsible man.

Maigstrate Osunsanmi therefore ruled that Olomo be granted the custody of the children while Iluyomade was granted access and visitation right once a month.

The judgment has however sparked fresh controversy as Mrs. Iluyomade is suspecting a lot of foul play and therefore crying for justice.

According to her, “upon inquiries made after the day’s proceedings, I discovered that the IPO had altered evidence in his affidavit in support of the Remand application, giving evidence contrary to the true facts he told the commissioner of Police. Furthermore, he did not bring the video evidence to the attention of the Honurable court, all which have fuelled my suspicion that the IPO is bent on perverting justice in this case.”

To this end, Iluyomade, who also alleged threat to her life by one Benedict Olomo, a senior Police Officer working in Ogun state and a brother to his son-in-law, is pleading the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to take over the investigation of the case, especially in the areas of defilement, sodomy and abuse of minors.

She also want the Commissioner to “investigate the very suspicious and unclear circumstances of the death of my daughter on the 3rd of June, 2019 with a view to unraveling the truth.

Rahman Aliagan, Secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists opines that NGIJ team of Investigators will continue to dig deep into this case and file more updates.

Xenophobia in South Africa has become a deeply troubling issue, raising questions about unity, historical memory, and the values that once defined the African struggle for liberation.

While concerns about illegal immigration and documentation are valid, they cannot justify the violence, hostility, and loss of life that have increasingly targeted foreign nationals, particularly fellow Africans.

 

The recurring outbreaks of violence—such as the 2008 South African xenophobic riots—highlight a pattern that continues to resurface. Incidents like the recent killing of a Nigerian taxi driver, widely shared in disturbing videos, serve as painful reminders of how severe and personal this crisis has become. These acts not only harm individuals and communities but also damage the broader vision of African solidarity.

 

Historically, many African nations, including Nigeria, stood firmly against Apartheid, offering financial, political, and moral support to movements like the African National Congress. This shared struggle fostered a sense of continental unity—an idea that now seems under strain.

 

Figures like Julius Malema have spoken about African unity and condemned xenophobic violence, though the broader political and social landscape remains complex. The persistence of these attacks suggests deeper underlying issues, including economic inequality, unemployment, and social frustration.

 

Ultimately, xenophobia in South Africa is not just a national issue—it is an African one. It challenges the continent to reflect on its shared history, its responsibilities to one another, and the urgent need to rebuild a sense of unity and mutual respect.

In line with its commitment to accelerating the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across Nigeria, leading financial institution, Fidelity Bank Plc, has rolled out a series of high impact masterclasses designed to equip business owners with practical skills, improve operational efficiency and expand market access throughout the month of April 2026.

 

 

 

The first in the series, titled “Pricing That Works: How to Charge Right and Earn More,” held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Fidelity SME Hub in Gbagada, Lagos. The session focused on helping entrepreneurs set profitable, sustainable prices without losing customers, an essential factor for long-term business success.

 

 

 

About a hundred SMEs from different sectors attended the masterclass which saw participants receive guidance on key areas many small businesses struggle with including costing, value-based pricing, pricing psychology and customer perception.

 

 

 

Following the success of the pricing masterclass and testimonials from participants, the bank scheduled three additional masterclasses to run throughout April 2026. The second masterclass, held on Tuesday, 14 and Wednesday, 15 April 2026, was a practical, skill-building session titled, “Baking Masterclass: From Kitchen to Cashflow”. Taiwo Oyedele Takes Helm At Finance Ministry, Vows To Sustain Reforms

Taiwo Oyedele officially has assumed office as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.He takes over from Wale Edun following a cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced earlier that week.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Information and Public Relations Unit, Efe Ovuakporie, the handover took place on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in line with a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The ministry noted that Edun’s time in office saw the implementation of several fiscal and economic measures aimed at stabilising the economy and setting it on a path of long-term growth. These efforts included steps to improve government revenue, strengthen coordination of public finances, and advance broader structural reforms under the current administration’s economic programme.

In his remarks after taking over, Oyedele praised his predecessor for his contributions to the country’s economic reforms. He commended Edun for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours.

The new minister also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for entrusting him with the role. He said he is prepared to work closely with the leadership and staff of the ministry to achieve the government’s economic goals and deliver results that will benefit Nigerians.

Speaking on behalf of the ministry’s leadership, the Permanent Secretary, Raymond Omachi, along with the Permanent Secretary for Special Duties, Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, assured the minister of their full cooperation and support in carrying out his responsibilities.

Oyedele said his focus would be on building on existing reforms while ensuring that government policies produce clear and measurable results across key sectors of the economy.

The ministry added that the change in leadership is expected to ensure continuity in its work, with ongoing attention on strengthening economic reforms, maintaining fiscal discipline, and improving outcomes for citizens.
