The Oyo State Police Command has rescued Olaide John-Paul the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu along with her twin sons.
The family regained their freedom on Saturday evening, concluding a three-day kidnap ordeal.
They were originally ambushed and abducted by armed men on Wednesday in Ibadan, the state capital.
Oyo police spokesperson Olayinka Olushola confirmed the successful rescue to newsmen.
“Yes they have been rescued unhurt,” Olushola said in a text message.
Femi Awogboro, one of Adelabu’s media aides, had said that John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were kidnapped at about 7:30am while on her way to drop the children at school in Ibadan.
John-Paul is said to be the youngest of Olufunmilayo Adelabu’s five children.
The 43-year-old had worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring last year.
“Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while making preparations to eventually join her husband, John Paul, who had earlier relocated to the United States of America,” Awogboro said.
Olushola said details about their rescue would be shared soon.
Their release comes admid the continued detention of over 40 pupils and teachers of three schools in Ogbomosho, Oriire LGA, who were abducted on May 15.
The victims, including children as young as two years old, have been in captivity for 22 days.
