Tinubu Commiserates With Former INEC Chair Jega Following Death Of Wife

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his deep condolences to the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, following the passing of his wife, Hajiya Hadiza Jega.

The President described her as a woman of virtue who provided immense support to her husband throughout his years of service to the nation.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President at the Janazah prayer held at the National Mosque, Abuja, on Sunday, conveyed the President’s heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

President Tinubu described the late Hajiya Hadiza as a woman of uncommon grace and strength, noting that she played a pivotal role as a steady support system to her husband throughout his years of public service, including his tenure as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also commended her contributions to education and community development, highlighting her quiet but impactful influence in advancing social causes.

In a condolence message personally addressed to Professor Jega, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

“Dear Professor Jega, it is with a heavy heart that I receive the news of the passing of your beloved wife of over 40 years. Hajiya was an exceptional woman.

“I mourn this painful loss with you and your family and pray that God Almighty grant her Aljannatul Firdaus. I stand with you and your family at this difficult time,” the President said.
